Impact Score is calculated using the following data points:
- Total Review Count: The total number of reviews within the sample and/or timeframe.
- Overall Average Rating: The average rating for all reviews within the sample and/or timeframe.
- Topic Review Count: The number of reviews mentioning the topic.
- Topic Average Rating: The average rating of reviews mentioning the topic.
Using these data points, Impact Score is calculated as follows:

Scaling: Due to the small size of the product review scale (1-5) the final score is scaled by x100 to improve readability and prevent erroneous rounding. The typical calculation for Impact Score does not include this x100 scaling when dealing with NPS or other large metrics.
Example: Product X has 700 total product reviews with an average review rating of 4.4 / 5.0.
Topic A occurs in 120 reviews and has an average review rating of 4.6 / 5.0. After scaling, the impact score is +4.137.
Topic B occurs in 60 reviews and has an average rating of 3.9 / 5.0. After scaling, the impact score is -4.69. This indicates that, though it has a lower volume, Topic B is slightly more negatively impactful than Topic A is positively impactful.
