Creating a project and uploading your data

Modified on: Fri, Jun 28, 2019 at 9:28 AM

Projects allow you to organize and explore your data. First, you’ll need a dataset to upload. Before you can upload data to your project please ensure that your dataset follows the formatting guidelines. Once you’ve got your data ready it’s time to dive in.

Project uploading

1. Navigate to the Projects home page.

2. In the upper right of the page, click on the green "+ New project" button.

3. Click the 'Choose dataset' button and pick a dataset you’ve prepared according to the formatting guide. Click ‘open’. A preview of your dataset will appear to the right. This might take a minute depending on how large your dataset is. Or feel free to drag and drop the CSV into where the dataset will display.

4. Set the language your dataset is in.

5. Name your project.

6. Describe your project. This is optional, but a good place to keep notes if you’re collaborating on this project with others.

7. If you would like to be notified when your project is ready to explore, click the checkbox ‘send me an email when this project is finished building’.

8. Then click ‘Create project’.  You should then see a progress bar that your dataset is being uploaded to our servers. Do not navigate away from this page while your data is being uploaded.

9. Once it’s uploaded to our servers, you’ll see a notification that we’re building your project. At this point it's safe to navigate back to the homepage and work on other projects.

10. While your project is building, it will appear in your list of projects with a ‘Processing’ status next to it. If you opted to receive a notification, we’ll send you an email once your project has been built and ready to explore.

That’s it! You’re all done creating your first project.

Uploading more data to a project

The process is simple if you’d like to add more data to a project you already have.

1. On the Projects home page find the project you would like to add a new dataset to.

2. Once you’ve found it, click the ‘Upload data’ button. You’ll be brought to the ‘Upload data’ page.

3. The language, name of your project, and project description will be pre-filled with the information you gave when you set up your project. You have the opportunity to edit them before uploading your new data.

4. Choose the new dataset you’ve prepared and click ‘open’. A preview of your dataset will appear to the right. This might take a minute depending on how large your dataset is. Or feel free to drag and drop the CSV into where the dataset will display.

5. If you would like to be notified when your project is ready to explore, click the checkbox ‘send me an email when this project is finished building’.

6. Then click ‘Upload data’.  You should then see a progress bar that your new dataset is being uploaded to our servers.

7. Once it’s uploaded to our servers, you’ll see a notification that we’re building your project. It’s ok to navigate back to the homepage and work on other projects from here.

8. While your project is building, it will appear in your list of projects with a ‘Processing’ status next to it. If you opted to receive a notification, we’ll send you an email once your project has been built and ready to explore.

That’s it! You’re all done uploading more data to your project.

Project copying

From the main Projects view, click Copy:

This will create an exact duplicate of the project. The new project will include any saved topics that are in the original project at the time of copying. Once you click Copy, you will have the option to name your copy, and assign the workspace it belongs to.
